June 2 through June 3, 2016

From Fort Nelson to Whitehorse, we had some spectacular views. There was a ton of snow on the side of the highway at Steamboat and Stone Mountain. Overall, I am very happy we waited in Fort Nelson before heading to Watson Lake.

We spent two nights in Whitehorse so that we could tour the town and get a few stamps in our gold giveaway passport.

The Klondike was still there, but they have closed off most of the vessel due to deterioration.

The Alaskan Highway from Whitehorse to the Alaskan Border was to say the least, horrible. I believe it was worse than 2014. The dirt and mud road base was washboard so we could only drive around 10 to 15. I was in no hurry, but that can be exhausting.

We did see two more grizzly bears in including one with two cubs.

At Tok RV village we purchased the RV car wash. It took an hour to get the mud and rock off of the Coach and Jeep. The big problem was that the front of the Jeep is pretty much ruined from rock chips. The windshield has and least 8 cracks and star chips. The paint is chipped very bad and the lens are cracked.

In 2014, we did not get one chip on the Jeep. I learned a very valuable lesson. I see Class A's with guards in front of their Toad's. We did not need this as the rear axel on the Seneca was at least 15 feet forward of the rear of the motor home. On the Dutch Star we have a very large mud flap at the rear, but I now believe it is pretty much worthless. After I get back to Florida and get the Jeep repaired, we will be looking into one of the rock shields.

June 3rd we headed up to Fairbanks at a leisurely pace. I was hoping to see Denali, but we had clouds and rain. In 2014, we had a perfect view around Delta Junction. I sure hope we will be able to see it when we get to the park.

We stopped in Delta Junction to view Mile Post 1422 and let my brother get his certificate. We had our "Grizwald" photo taken of us in our 2016 Alaska T-shirts Chris embroidered for all of us.

From there we headed uneventfully up to Rivers Edge RV Park in Fairbanks.
